Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Variation 4, Puritan: “Studio G in the CBC building on Jarvis Street - my beautiful prison. I spent thousands of hours in this room fabricating a certain kind of truth. I ruled here like a Roman emperor, building great aqueducts for the sound of myself.” Glenn had an intimate relationship with the CBC. As described in the play Glenn, Glenn was both fascinated and pleased with the countless possibilities that technology brought to his music. In his studio where he spent a great portion of his life, he recorded, practiced and edited his music to achieve perfection. His studio was his “beautiful prison” where he had the power of a “Roman emperor.” CBC is the oldest broadcasting service in Canada. It is Canada’s national public radio and television broadcaster, and has been with us since 1932. When CBC was introduced in 1932, its main purpose was to diminish the growing influence of American radio broadcasting in Canada. CBC is the first broadcaster in the world to use an orbiting satellite for television service in Canada, which helped to link Canadians from east to west to north. CBC provides services such as radio, television, news, online, and more. One unique place located in the Canadian Broadcasting Centre is the Glenn Gould Studio. As "jewel of the Canadian Broadcasting Centre," Glenn Gould Studio is an attractive venue for performers. By: Kyle Kim ![]() ![]() |
