New York Philharmonic

Variation 1, Prodigy: “Mother tunes in the New York Philharmonic on the CBC. The music swells to fill the ear ... rings harmonics in my inner ear ... The music coming to life inside my head! Unity! Coherence! Structure! Me playing it all!”

With the help of Gould’s encouraging mother who noticed Glenn’s extraordinary gift and talent, Gould’s ears became accustomed to music at an early age. Captivated by the New York Philharmonic, Gould would have imagined himself to become a successful pianist in order to perform at the New York Philharmonic one day. On April 6th 1962 Gould managed to perform at the New York Philharmonic.

Listed as one of the “Big Five,” New York Philharmonic is a symphony orchestra located in New York. The home of the New York Philharmonic is the Avery Fisher Hall, which is located in the Lincoln’s Center. New York Philharmonic was named Philharmonic Society of New York at first when American-born conductor, Ureli Corelli Hill, founded it in 1842. Few prominent composers and conductors who led the New York Philharmonic are: Theodore Thomas, Antonín Dvorák, Erich Leinsdorf, and  Arturo Toscanini. It is the oldest American symphonic institution, and performed its 14,000th concert on December 2004.
